Mountaineering expeditions in Pakistan

Guided ascents in the Karakoram, Himalaya, Hindukush and Pamir — led by climbing staff from the valleys the routes pass through.

Wandering Yaks guides climbing expeditions across the Karakoram, Himalaya, Hindukush and Pamir. Every expedition page publishes the summit altitude, the alpine grade, the camp ladder, the climbing season, and whether a permit or royalty applies.

Common questions

Which peaks in Pakistan can I climb without a permit?

Peaks in Pakistan's open zones — generally those under about 6,500 m outside restricted areas — need no climbing permit, no royalty fee and no liaison officer. Higher and restricted peaks require a permit and royalty from the Gilgit-Baltistan Council Tourism Department. Every expedition page states which applies to that specific peak.

Do I need previous mountaineering experience to join an expedition?

It depends on the peak. Trekking peaks around 5,000–6,000 m are climbable by strong multi-day trekkers with no prior summit, because crampon, ice-axe and roped-glacier skills are taught at base camp. Peaks above 7,000 m require documented high-altitude experience. Each expedition page states its own requirement.

When is the climbing season in the Karakoram?

June to early October for most peaks, with July and August the most settled. Snow lingers on summit slopes in June; late September and October bring the clearest air and the coldest starts. Winter ascents are a different undertaking and are not part of our published programme.

How do I book, and what deposit is required?

Pick a date on the expedition page and confirm your place with a $400 deposit per climber, or pay in full at booking. Both are handled through Stripe at checkout, and the balance is due before departure.
