Change your cookie choice
Reopen the consent banner anytime and choose essential only or accept analytics.
1. What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your browser or device by a website or its technology providers. They help the site remember that you are signed in, keep checkout working, and — if you agree — understand how people use the site.
First-party cookies are set by wanderingyaks.com. Third-party cookies are set by another domain (for example Google Analytics when you accept analytics). Session cookies expire when you close the browser; persistent cookies remain for a set period.
When you first visit, a consent banner lets you accept or reject non-essential (analytics) cookies before they are used for measurement. Strictly necessary cookies do not require consent because the site cannot function without them.
2. Essential cookies
These are required for the site to work. You cannot turn them off from the banner.
Session / authentication cookies
Issued by our API so customer and staff accounts stay signed in, and so booking and letter-of-invitation checkout can complete securely. Typically session-based or short-lived.
wy_consentStores whether you chose essential only or accepted analytics. Kept for up to 12 months so we do not ask on every visit. Legal basis: legitimate interest / recording your preference.
3. Analytics cookies (optional)
If you choose Accept analytics, we load Google Analytics 4 (GA4). Google may set first-party cookies on wanderingyaks.com. We rely on your consent for this processing. You can withdraw it anytime via Cookie settings.
We configure GA4 with IP anonymisation where available and do not send your name, email, phone, or passport details to Google.
_gaDistinguishes visitors. Retention typically up to 2 years.
_ga_<container-id>Persists a GA4 session state. Retention typically up to 2 years.
You may also opt out of Google Analytics with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
4. What we do not use
- Advertising, remarketing, or Google Ads cookies.
- Google signals or cross-site advertising profiles in analytics.
- Targeting cookies that share browsing history with ad networks.
We may load Ahrefs Web Analytics for SEO and traffic measurement. It is separate from the GA4 consent toggle and is used to understand how search visitors find our mountain travel pages — not to serve ads.
5. How to manage, delete, and block cookies
Use in the footer or on this page to reopen the banner and switch between essential only and accept analytics.
You can also control cookies in your browser (usually under Options, Settings, or Privacy). Blocking all cookies may break sign-in, checkout, and other features. Essential cookies cannot be disabled via our banner because they are required for the site to operate.
If you previously accepted analytics and later choose essential only, we update consent storage. Clear site data in your browser if you want Google Analytics cookies already on the device removed.
6. What information cookies may relate to
Depending on your choices and how you use the site, cookie-related processing may involve:
- Approximate location derived from IP (country-level for analytics).
- Device and browser type, pages viewed, referrer, and time on page.
- Session identifiers needed for login and checkout.
- Your consent preference stored in
wy_consent.
Usage analytics are aggregated where possible. If information is linked to you personally (for example via an account session), our privacy policy applies.
7. Why we use cookies
- Bookings and accounts — keep you signed in and move securely through trip and LOI checkout.
- Site reliability — remember your analytics preference and keep essential features working.
- Improving the experience — with consent, understand which journeys and pages people look at so we can improve content about the Karakoram, Hindukush, Himalayas, and Pamir.
8. Retention of cookie data
Session cookies are deleted when you close the browser. Persistent cookies remain for the periods noted above (for example wy_consent up to 12 months; GA4 cookies typically up to 2 years). Google may retain associated analytics data on its systems according to its product retention settings. We do not keep cookie-derived analytics longer than needed for measurement and improvement.
9. International transfers
Some analytics cookies are set by third parties (such as Google) whose servers may be outside Pakistan or the EEA. Where personal data collected through cookies is transferred internationally, we take steps consistent with applicable data-protection laws and our privacy policy.
10. Your rights
Where applicable law gives you rights over personal data collected through cookies, you may withdraw consent to non-essential cookies, request access, correction, or deletion, and lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. Full rights and how to exercise them are in our privacy policy.
Contact: contact@wanderingyaks.com.
We may update this policy when technology, law, or our practices change. Material updates will refresh the effective date on this page and, where appropriate, a notice on the website.
