Wandering Yaks

Karim Shah

Salt tea, apricot trees, and the Passu glacier at his back door.

Karim was born in Passu, three hundred metres from the glacier snout. His grandfather kept yaks; his father drove the first Bedford truck up the KKH; Karim runs a five-room guesthouse where the apricots dry on the roof and the walnut trees are older than Pakistan. He guides walks up to the Batura Glacier and can point out every peak on the horizon by name.
